KULAOKAHUA EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS & COUPLES

Dynamic Healing Center offers emergency housing for homeless individuals and couples aged 60 and older. Emergency shelters are critical for Oahu’s most vulnerable. DHC shelters provide safety, support, and stabilization. Once sheltered, guests begin working toward s regaining their independence towards permanent housing. We help them address their basic needs so they can focus on their future. Services include case management, family support, employment services, financial management, and housing support. Each studio is equipped with its own private restroom and kitchenette. The emergency shelter is ADA accessible.

Getting Stronger, After Weakness

Dynamic Healing Center offers substance abuse services to all age groups that includes access to evidenced based therapies that support recovery for the individual and family. We currently offer daily and Intensive Outpatient services for both adolescents and adults—an expanded array of services that include on-site assessments with co-occurring disorder services. This is an innovative approach to treatment utilizing an evidenced-based family curriculum and cultural program to improve treatment outcomes while maximizing services at a reduced cost without compromising quality and efficiency. Our goal is to reduce substance use and criminal activity by utilizing a family and cultural centered approach, motivational interviewing techniques, social learning approaches, and cognitive-behavioral strategies to restore and improve overall functioning.

Team Bonding

DHC believes it’s important to build healthy relationships to increase trust and support amongst the group. As a result, DHC coordinates fun, sober related outdoor activities on a weekly basis to include hiking, scavenger hunts, kayaking, camping, and art therapy.

The past is present

Working in the kalo field is essential when learning about this powerful plant. An important reason why we still do our tradition (working in the Lo’i) is not only offering keiki, but also others, the chance to understand the history, culture, and native agriculture that can and will, help to preserve the land for generations. To kanaka maoli, this canoe plant widely cultivated around the world is the source of life.

Using a Strength Based & Cultural Framework, DHC emphasizes the importance of incorporating family members within its treatment process if available. Family therapy is a type of treatment designed to help with issues that specifically affect families' mental health and functioning. It can help individual family members build stronger relationships, improve communication, and manage conflicts within the family system.
